A Great Story About Data Backup

Around 1990 I was told a great story by my Uncle Pete Fazio. Yes, more Italians in Renton. Back in the early 1900′s he started working for the Seattle water department. As a young man, his boss gave him this sage advise. “Pete, when you put in a valve, you need to record the location. You must make one copy for the Renton office, a 2nd copy for the Lynwood office, and unofficially one copy goes in your garage. For 50 years Uncle Pete did what his boss said.

In the 1970′s the water department started hiring women workers, and according to Uncle Pete a room was needed for private dressing quarters. The storage room that held the records in the Renton office was turned over to the newly hired women. Somehow the records were lost around this time. Later there was a fire in the Lynwood office and those records were destroyed.

Until his death in the mid 1990′s, water department officials were still coming to visit Uncle Pete to find out the location of buried water valves.

How does this story relate to printing one may ask. More then ever when it comes to computers you must have several layers of back up copies. At the Renton Printery we never destroy data or your files on purpose. We get calls about once a month asking about a lost file and if a copy could be had. Most of the time we receive many thanks for having a back up copy.
